2021 was the year of the candidate and 2022 is shaping up to be the same.

At the end of 2021, Wonderlic asked 1,000 HR professionals and hiring managers about their experience hiring during The Great Resignation. In this report you’ll learn about the tweaks, tools, and technologies they’ve used to land top talent during this time.

Nearly 9 out of 10 talent pros said they shook up their hiring process during The Great Resignation.

We presented our talent pros with eight common hiring milestones and asked them to select which ones they either added or removed since June 2021. All but 11% of the more than 500 respondents said they made some sort of change.

Among respondents, there was 25% more reported activity related to removing milestones than there was for adding milestones.

This suggests a minor trend towards putting more value in streamlining the hiring process over gathering additional candidate data. However, despite this trend in activity, our data pointed to a strong relationship between a high number of milestones and a high quality of hire.  

More than 67% of talent pros who use assessments rated their quality of hires as “Above Average" or “Excellent,” compared to only 42% of those who don't.

And when we looked only at those who said the quality of their hires was "Excellent," the differences between the two groups were even more stark.
