Kanamemo is a slice-of-life anime that follows Kana Nakamachi, a middle school girl whose life takes a dramatic turn after the passing of her grandmother, leaving her without a home. Seeking shelter, Kana stumbles upon the Fuhshin Gazette, a small local newspaper delivery business. The Gazette offers her a place to stay on the condition that she works for them, marking the beginning of her new life. Despite her lack of experience, Kana takes on the responsibilities of a newspaper carrier while adapting to her unusual living arrangements.

The Fuhshin Gazette is home to a colorful and eccentric cast of characters who bring both chaos and warmth to Kana's life. Among them are the cheerful Yume Kitaoka and her girlfriend Yuuki Minami, the penny-pinching Hinata Azuma, the free-spirited alcoholic Haruka Nishida, and the serious yet caring manager Saki Amano. Together, they create a supportive yet comedic environment where Kana learns about responsibility, independence, and the value of friendships. Along the way, Kana also contends with rival Mika Kujiin from a competing newspaper service and faces various humorous and heartwarming challenges, from dealing with tricky delivery routes to overcoming fears and misunderstandings.
