What is the Wonderlic Test?

The Wonderlic Select test (formerly Wonscore) is used by organizations as part of their application and hiring processes. It allows job candidates to showcase their unique strengths, interests, and abilities, and evaluates candidates against specific job requirements for the posted jobs. The assessment is comprised of three sections, one timed and two untimed, and requires an average of 35 minutes to complete.

Is the Wonderlic Test Hard?

The Wonderlic Select test is not hard but it is challenging. Only the timed cognitive ability portion of the assessment has right or wrong answers. It is designed to be challenging, and all test takers will find some questions more difficult than others. Keep in mind that test takers are not expected to complete all questions in this section in the allotted time. The other two sections of the assessment do not have right or wrong answers as the questions relate to the types of work and activities that most appeal to you and how you are likely to react in various situations in a workplace environment.

How do I Prepare and Study so I can Pass the Wonderlic Test?

Preparation and study are not necessary to complete the Wonderlic Select test, however, there are free Wonderlic Sample Questions available to help you study and prepare.

Unlike other assessments you might be familiar with, there is no “passing” or “failing” grade with Wonderlic Select (formerly Wonscore). Instead, the assessment allows you to provide prospective employers with information about your strengths, interests, and abilities. Only one portion of the test has right or wrong answers, and those questions do not measure knowledge, but your ability to apply logic and reason to select an answer. The best advice is to use good test taking strategies. Such as, don’t spend too much time on individual questions and don’t “skip around,” hoping to come back to questions.

How many Questions are on the Wonderlic Test, and How Long Does it Take?

Most individuals complete the full Wonderlic Select assessment in about 35 minutes. The 12-minute, timed portion of the test contains 50 questions, but test takers are not expected to complete all these questions in the time allotted. The other two sections of the assessment are untimed. The motivational interests portion contains 58 items, and the personality portion contains 150 items.

  • 50 - Cognitive questions
  • 58 - Motivational questions
  • 150 - Personality questions

Can you use a Calculator on the Wonderlic Test?

No. Using a calculator will not significantly improve your testing results and might cause you to spend too much time on individual questions, potentially lowering your score. The assessment is not designed to test math skills, but rather to evaluate your reasoning abilities in arriving at answers. Only a small number of questions in the assessment involve mathematical concepts requiring calculations.

Is the Wonderlic Test Proctored?

No, typically companies do not proctor the Wonderlic Select test, however, some might choose to do so. The majority of questions do not have correct or incorrect answers. And for the section containing questions that do have correct or incorrect answers, the time constraint makes proctoring unnecessary.

How do I Request a Reasonable Accommodation for the Wonderlic Test?

Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, testing accommodations are provided by the prospective employer, so you will need to contact the hiring organization directly to request a reasonable accommodation for testing. Please provide the prospective employer with as much information as possible, including any documentation, and they, in turn, will consult with Wonderlic to identify what, if any, accommodation is appropriate in your unique situation.

Can Wonderlic Resend a Testing Invitation?

No. The organizations using the Wonderlic Select test are responsible for their own testing invitations. As such, candidates need to contact the hiring organization directly to inquire about receiving a new invitation.

What is the "Assessment not Available" message?

A Wonderlic Select assessment becomes unavailable when a testing link has expired or has been disabled. Links generally remain active for a maximum of 14 days. If the “Assessment not Available” message appears before 14 days have elapsed, this indicates that the prospective employer has made the assessment unavailable. Any questions about an expired or disabled link should be directed to the hiring organization.

How do I get my Wonderlic Test Results?

The only Wonderlic Select testing results available to applicants is the Candidate Feedback Report accessed from a link provided at the completion of the assessment. These reports are the only results provided to candidates, and traditional numerical scores for the cognitive portion of the assessment are not available. If you did not receive a link to access the Candidate Feedback report, then one is not available to you.

How Long does it Take to get Wonderlic Test Results?

The only results available to Wonderlic Select test takers is the Candidate Feedback Report. If a Candidate Feedback Report is available, you will receive a link to view the report at the conclusion of the assessment. If you do not receive such a link, then this report is not available to you. Prospective employers have immediate access to your testing results at the conclusion of the assessment, but prevailing laws generally do not require prospective employers to share results with candidates.

How Much does it Cost to Take the Wonderlic Test?

There is no cost to test takers for any Wonderlic assessments because we do not provide individuals with assessments. We only provide organizations with access to our testing platform. So, be cautious if you are being asked to pay for a Wonderlic test. Since Wonderlic does not sell testing of any kind to individuals, you are likely viewing information from a company that sells practice tests or study materials for the Wonderlic test but they are in no way affiliated with Wonderlic, Inc!

What does the Wonderlic Test Measure?

The Wonderlic Select test measures:

  • Cognitive Ability: your ability to learn, adapt, and solve problems
  • Motivation (vocational interests): tye types of work and activities that you find most interesting and engaging
  • Personality: how you react to people, tasks, and situations in the workplace

What is a Good or an Average Wonderlic Score?

There is no universal “good” or “average” score for the Wonderlic Select test. Unlike previous versions of Wonderlic testing (Wonscore), today’s Wonderlic Select test does not provide a singular numerical cognitive ability score. Instead, the results of the three component measures (cognitive ability, motivation, and personality) are combined and evaluated as they relate to the specific demands of the job.

How is the Wonderlic Scored?

The Wonderlic Select test is scored by a sophisticated, proprietary algorithm that examines all responses and evaluates test takers against the demands of specified job. Scoring goes far beyond individual answers. Our scoring model predicts candidates’ likelihood of success in specified roles based upon their unique characteristics as reported through completion of the assessment.
